HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) Chairman Mark Tucker is set to step down on September 30. Tucker's departure has taken some members of the bank's board aback, Bloomberg reported.

While it is believed that it will take longer to find Tucker's successor, the board already held a meeting in Hong Kong last week to intensify discussions on the list of potential candidates.

According to the report, Richard Gnodde (Goldman Sachs (GS.US) Vice Chairman), Kevin Sneader (Goldman Sachs Asia Pacific Ex-Japan President), Brendan Nelson (HSBC Interim Chairman), and James Forese (HSBC Independent Non-Executive Director) were on the list of potential candidates.

HSBC HOLDINGS stated that the appointment process for the new chairman is underway, and it will provide updates in due course.
